Let’s really help the NHS
We all became familiar with this during the Covid 19 Pandemics, but you’ll be really pleased to know that I’m not going to talk about washing hands or clapping on a Thursday night 😊
It’s been a constant theme for over a decade now that NHS waiting lists are growing. Our nation’s population is aging, there are less people entering medicine as a career… the list goes on and iI’m not going to rehearse it here; most of us know and have opinions on why this is the case.
Instead, I want to talk about what we can all do to help.
I want to talk about health proactivity.
We will all die. That’s inevitable and on the way to that point, we will all experience a decline in health. But how we arrive at that point is something that we often have control over, and it’s something that we need to talk about. And it needs to be talked about now, because choosing to start living a proactively healthy life, changes the demand that you will put on the health service in the future.
So how do you start?
You’ll be pleased to know, that I’m not about to lecture on the benefits of exercise (again) as I’ve written about that already.
What I’m going to suggest is that, instead of being passive and awaiting the NHS to reach out for your “Over 40’s health check”, you take ownership of your health. I’m aware that taking ownership isn’t always a popular concept in our modern society, but it’s fundamental to what I’m about to suggest.
Taking ownership, to me, means trying to be the best that we can be and owning the responsibility of learning the information we need to do that. And one of the benefits of living in our modern society is that we have access to so much information. In fact, almost too much! Knowing where to go is often the most challenging thing.
Thankfully, that’s why you have us at OIS – we aren’t professing to be experts at everything, but what we can do is sort through the “Instagram influencer fads” and point you to the people who you can genuinely draw inspiration and ideas from.
If you haven’t already read “Outlive” by Dr Peter Attia, then stop reading this now and go buy it – its on Kindle, Audible and good old fashioned paperback! Peter is the leading expert, in the world, in Longevity medicine.
His book has been an inspiration to me – it’s revolutionised my thinking about health, wellbeing and aging. The reason I am so keen for you to read it is it’s the first book of its kind that is written for everyone to read and understand – you don’t need to be a medical expert to read it, unlike all the text books!
After you have read it and, if you find yourself inspired to take ownership of your own health, we can help.
Gee and I are able to arrange private imaging & private blood tests or any other number of investigations if they are what you need. We have relationships with private GP’s, consultants and a long list of professionals, so if we cannot answer your questions we usually know someone who can.
Let’s truly help the NHS.
Let’s get better educated and more proactive over our own health, because how well you live is entirely your choice.
